Anointing of the Sick

"Is any man sick among you?"

-James 5:14

Let Us Pray for You

St Brigid's Prayer Chain

A Catholic prayer chain is a ministry where a group of people commit to praying for the intentions and needs of others, often through a system of communication like email or phone calls. It's a way for Catholics to practice intercessory prayer and support one another in times of need.

If you would like to be included in this powerful intention, please contact us. All requests are kept confidential.

A SACRAMENT OF HEALING

We are here for you or your loved one.

What is the reason for this sacrament?

The Catholic sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing for those experiencing illness, injury, or the effects of old age. It's not solely for the dying but for anyone facing serious illness, surgery, or the challenges of advanced age. This sacrament offers spiritual strength, comfort, and can even bring about physical healing if it is God's will

Who can receive this sacrament?

Celebration of this sacrament is no longer reserved only for those who are dying. This changed with the Second Vatican Council in the early 1960's. At that time the sacrament was expanded for the benefit of anyone suffering from a serious physical or mental illness. Celebration of the sacrament is certainly appropriate before or after a surgical procedure, seeking the Lord's power to be at work in the skills of doctors and nurses. Someone who is seriously ill can also receive the sacrament more than once.
